Education in Neligh


The foundation to any community is its children.  In Neligh they are offered a great start by our progressive school district and lots of one-on-one time due to small class sizes.  Neligh is close to some outstanding post-secondary schools including Northeast Community College, in Norfolk - with it's exceptional staff and the newest technology available for it's students.

Neligh-Oakdale Public Schools in cooperation with ESU #8 was recently featured in a Washington Post article detailing their innovative uses of technology to provide unique educational opportunities to their students.

Neligh-Oakdale Public Schools

The 2014-15 N-O Public School's report details this year's school improvement, facility plans, enrollment numbers, and mission statement.  According to the Nebraska Performance Accountability (NePAS) test, in 2013-14, Neligh-Oakdale students ranked 3rd in the state in Math growth, 27th in reading growth, and 7th in math improvement.  Click here for more information.

Post-Secondary

Northeast Community College

NECC is located thirty-five miles east of Neligh in Norfolk, NE. Northeast Community College is the only community college in the state of Nebraska with one and two-year vocational, liberal arts and adult education programs all on one main campus.  

Northeast is a nationally recognized community college.  The Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization based in D.C., named Northeast Community College in the top 10 percent of roughly 1,200 community colleges in the United States for the second consecutive year.

Wayne State College

WSC, in Wayne, Nebraska is a public, four-year college just 70 miles east of Neligh.

University of Nebraska at Lincoln

UNL, Nebraska’s flagship University is home to the Huskers.  UNL is located in Lincoln, Nebraska, 150 miles southeast of Neligh.

University of Nebraska at Omaha

UNO, situated in Omaha is Nebraska’s premier metropolitan university and is 140 miles southeast of Neligh.

Nebraska Educational Service Center #8

Located within Neligh, ESU #8 provides supplementary services to K-12 schools in its seven-county district.
